15 Questions With Lee Bennett

This month our ‘15 Questions’ have winged their way to Essex, to a solo singer called Lee Bennett. Chelmsford born Lee has been involved in music and dancing from a very young age, with his path through to the present day featuring appearances in various boybands, some of whom performed alongside top pop acts on tour! Lee currently co-writes his own solo material, and is hoping to make his mark in 2010 as a dance/pop act. Read on to find out what he had to say as he tackled our ‘15 Questions’.

How would you describe your act, in the style of an advert?

Compare the music.com, compare LeeBennett.com, simples!

If you could read one newspaper headline about yourselves in 2010, what would it be?

“Lee Bennett, the overnight UK Music Sensation, captivates America!”

If a radio station gave you control of their shows and playlists for a day, what would you do?

I would play my Top Ten Hits, and also open the day to unsigned music and play “Love it or Shove it”.

You decide to plan a launch for your new album/single release, what would your ideal event be?

The London Eye, with events going on all around, and me performing live on the Thames.

What’s the most valuable lelee15sson you’ve learnt about the music industry?

Don’t believe everything that you’re told and keep your feet firmly on the ground.

Are there any instruments or other music related skills you’d like to pick up or improve on?

When I was small I taught myself to play the piano, so I would love to pick that up again, but I also love the guitar and would like to learn that too.

You’re asked to design/come up with something to giveaway to fans at your gigs, what would it be?

Anyone who knows me will know that I love to accessorize my outfits, and at some point in the future I would love to have my own range of accessories. For giving away at my gigs, I would like to design a rubber spikey flashing ball that you wear round your neck with my Logo in the middle!

What’s your favourite part of music history? (acts/genres etc)

I think when Madonna came on the scene, she is a legend! Her constant re-styling and re-invention has inspired millions, and even now manages to set the trends.

What was the last thing you googled online?

I googled Sky Planner, so I could watch a film on my laptop.

Have you any funny ‘You’ve Been Framed’ style stories you can share with us?

I was showing some French students round town once and I was pointing up at the top of a building and walked straight into a lamp post! So embarrassing!

Who would you most like to interview and what would you ask them?lee44

I would’ve liked to interview Michael Jackson, and asked him if he could do his whole life again would he do anything differently?

Do you still buy CD singles/albums, or is it all about downloads?

Yes, I still buy CDs, mainly as presents, but I also buy compilations and albums, although I tend to download singles. It’s nice to have CDs for the car and as I spend a lot of time on the road I prefer CDs.

Who do you think we should watch out for music wise this year?

Well other than myself, lol, I think that Adam Lambert is going to release some good stuff this year and also Lady Gaga. She goes from strength to strength, and even though she is fantastic now, I think there is plenty more to come from her.

How would you promote the British music scene abroad?

Over the years we have had some fantastic artists and bands stem from the UK, most
recently Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle, and its now time to show the world what more we have, by working hard and continuing to create great music that’s marketable worldwide.

And finally what else should we know about your act?

Well, when I perform its not just about listening to the track, I’m also very visual and I like to leave an impression with every performance I give, regardless of the size or capacity of the audience. I’m very hands-on with regard to my career down to co-writing the tracks, having input into the choreography, and also in my styling.
