Ali Campbell Interview

Remember Ali Campbell? He was the award winning vocalist in UB40, whose distinctive voice and songwriting skills helped secure millions of record sales, and worldwide success for the band. Since splitting from UB40 he has established a solo career and is about to release a new album ‘Flying High’. He took time out from his current U.K tour to answer some questions music.co.uk style!

1. What do you think and feel know when you look back on your time with UB40? 

I AM PROUD OF WHAT I ACHIEVED WITH UB40 BUT I EVEN PROUDER OF WHAT I HAVE ACHIEVED WITH THE DEP BAND.
 
2. Was it easy reinventing your self as a solo artist?

IT HAS BEEN A BREEZE…
 
3. For those who’ve not heard your solo records before, can you describe the musical journey you’ve been on to get to your third release?

I AM EXPERIMENTING WITH REGGAE MUSIC, AND THE CURRENT ALBUM IS THE BEST REGGAE ALBUM I HAVE MADE…TO DATE.
 
4. What can you tell us about the guest artists on your album, were they easy to find?

I THINK I HAVE A VERY COOL SELECTION THIS TIME AROUND. THEY ARE ALWAYS EASY TO FIND, BUT IT’S HARDER TO JUGGLE GETTING US TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME DUE TO SCHUEDLES.
 
5. If you were ‘Flying High’ who would you most/least like to sit next to on a flight?

LIKE – WIFE JULIE
DISLIKE – BRIAN TRAVERS
 
6. Your album has been described as a potential ‘summer soundtrack’, do you have any favourite summer tunes yourself?

ALL TIME FAV SUMMER ALBUM WOULD BE REGGAE GI DEM DUB, BIG YOUTH ON NEGUSA NAGAS
 
7. What do you enjoy doing outside of music? are there any hobbies/activities you’ve always wanted to try, or places you’ve yet to visit?

I LIVE AND GROW AROUND REGGAE MUSIC
 
8. As there are sites where you can look up quotes on different themes, what music related Ali Campbell quote would you like people to be looking up/remembering in years to come?

I LIKE MY MUSIC IN MONO AND BLACK AND WHITE
 
9. And finally, what do you hope the future holds for Ali Campbell and The Dep Band?

WORLD WIDE TOURING & ALBUM SUCCESS, RECOGNITION AS THE HOTTEST REGGAE BAND OUT THERE.
