Festival News

Another week, another pile of festival news for all you live music fans! So sit back, relax and scroll your way through details of Red List Live, Benicássim and The Isle Of Wight Festival.

Unfortunately we kick off with the news that Red List Live has been cancelled. The festival organisers have said that the debut of Red List Live has been affected by the credit crunch and competition from other festivals. Red List Live was due to take place in June at Port Lympne Animal Park in Kent, and was aiming to raise funds for vital animal conservation projects. Organisers hope the festival will be back in 2010, in the meantime, all is not lost, as there will be a series of smaller events and gigs held throughout the summer. For ticket refunds and details of the new events visit www.redlistlive.com.

Meantime the rest of the festival scene is still going strong, with the announcement of an exciting unsigned band competition. The Fast Track to FIB Heineken competition is offering winners the opportunity to perform at this years Benicássim Festival in Spain. The contest has just started and contestants have until May 15th to upload their entries to supajam.com. Then the contest begins in earnest with several rounds of public voting which will end in the top 5 acts playing live for the prize at London’s Pigalle Club. 2 weeks later the winners will be jetting off to Spain. Sounds good doesn’t it? Don’t forget to visit www.supajam.com before May 15th to register your entry.

Benicássim have also announced further additions to their line-up, which already features Lily Allen, Oasis, The Killers, and Paul Weller. The new acts confirmed include the award winning Elbow, well known crowd pleasers Maximo Park, and NME favourites The Horrors. Expect to bounce around to a variety of high octane rock! Tickets should still be available via approved outlets such as www.lastminute.com or www.seetickets.com. So why not join the 50,000 people per day who travel to the Spanish Coast to soak up the sun and hours of great live music.

Over on the Isle of Wight preparations are in full flow for their annual festival, which takes place on June 12-14th. New additions to the line-up include the legendary Simple Minds, who will be performing tracks from their new album ‘Graffiti Soul’ alongside some classic hits. They join Goldie Lookin Chain, The Pigeon Detectives, and superb Irish three piece The Script, on-stage on the 14th. Other acts appearing over the 3 days include Neil Young, Razorlight, Basement Jaxx, and The Prodigy. This award winning event is in its 8th year, and it’s festival goers like you, that make this, and every other festival across the U.K, a success. So keep enjoying your live music, and keep your eyes on music.co.uk for more festival and gig news in the future.
