You Don’t Need Sea Legs To Enjoy The Greenwich Summer Sessions!

It might be in a waterfront location, with strong nautical/naval links, but have no fear, you don’t need your sea legs to enjoy this years Greenwich Summer Sessions, held as part of the 5 month long Greenwich Festival.

Visitors to this years four day event, happening on the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 25th July are in for a treat, as a host of musical stars head on to the dry land of Old Royal Naval College for a genre crossing musical extravaganza! Kicking off proceedings on the 21st is Seth Lakeman and The Levellers, who will be followed on the 22nd by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Classical Brit nominees Natasha Marsh and Nicky Spence. On the 23rd it will be time to Jazz things up a little as local talent Jools Holland, with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra take to the stage. Ever one to add value to his shows, this appearance will also feature special guests Alison Moyet, and Gilson Lavis. Finally, the four day event will come to a close in true indie style, with an appearance from Deptford band Athlete.

GSS_Logo_DoubleAll these concerts have been specially put together with the aim of illustrating the culture of Greenwich, and I think with all their main acts having strong links with the area they have achieved this. Of course, when the last notes have faded into the wind, the fun won’t end. The Summer Sessions are part of a five month long festival, celebrating the diverse history of the area, and marking events such as the London Olympics, Greenwich becoming a Royal Borough in 2012, and earlier historical occasions such as the Peasants Revolt in 1381. Greenwich is also of course, a prominent feature in the annual London Marathon, which many people are busy training for. With four days of music planned, and 5 months of other events, all the family is sure to be spoilt for choice with the Greenwich Summer Festival and Summer Sessions. Why not check it out using the web links below, and see what you think!
