Tom Hardy will take on the role as Sir Elton John in the upcoming biopic of the singers life.
The Rocketman film has been written by Oscar-nominated writer, Lee Hall, who was nominated for Billy Elliot. Most recently he has been involved with War Horse.
Rocketman will follow the singer’s journey from Reginald Dwight’s childhood, to his position as music superstar Sir Elton John.
The film is being made in conjunction with Sir Elton John, who will also be executive producer of the biopic.
Shooting for the biopic is expected to begin towards the end of 2014.
The 36-year-old actor is best known for his roles in Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, Inception and Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
Tom Hardy is not the first actor to take on the role of Elton John, as back in 2001 Justin Timberlake took on the part of ‘young Elton’ in the music video This Train Don’t Stop Here Anymore.
