Top Driving Tunes Revealed In New Survey

Now I have to be honest, I don’t drive, and at present haven’t discovered my inner car geek, so the launch of autotrader.co.uk might have escaped unnoticed, if it wasn’t for a juicy story sent into music.co.uk.

To celebrate the website launch, the team behind the site commissioned research into people’s driving habits, and interestingly for us, the music they like to drive to.

On a serious note, this research suggested that the music we listen to can have an effect on our mood whilst driving, and therefore how we drive. Some of those surveyed said that Rap and Hip Hop music could either make them feel bored, or aggressive while driving, while dance music has been associated with excitement and impatience, classical music with relaxation, and classic rock/pop with happiness.

This survey wasn’t just about the psychological aspects of our driving habits though, it was about the driving ‘experience’ as a whole, and the role music plays in this. I’m sure we’ve all loaded the car with our favourite CD’s, and cranked up the volume on some favourite tunes, but what is it we’re listening to? The research covered favourite tunes across the Pop, Classical, Hip Hop, Rap, and Rock categories, with an overall Top Ten Most Loved Driving Tunes List published. The results make for interesting reading!

1.    Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody
2.    Michael Jackson: Man In The Mirror
3.    Steppenwolf: Born To Be Wild
4.    Take That: Shine
5.    Coldplay: Viva La Vida
6.    Beyonce Feat Jay-Z: Crazy In Love
7.    Girls Aloud: Love Machine
8.    Chris Rea: The Road To Hell
9.    Kanye West: Gold Digger
10.    Baby D: Let Me Be Your Fantasy

Despite the many and varied music tastes we have, when it comes to driving music, it’s always the legendary rock tunes that win the day, and I’m not surprised to see a Queen track top this list. I think my personal favourites would have to be Man In The Mirror and Shine, but what do you think of these choices; are there any you’d add to the list? Let us know your thoughts below!
